5 things actually worth splurging on in your new bathroom

When you’re designing a luxury bathroom, the options can feel endless – and it’s surprisingly easy to burn through your budget without even realising it. With so many beautiful finishes, statement pieces, and seductively overpriced extras, it’s easy to get carried away.

1. Tiles

Cheap tiles might look okay in a showroom, but once they’re on the wall, you’ll see the flaws soon after. Uneven tones, bad edges, plastic looking glaze… And once they’re up, you’re stuck with them.

Quality tiles have depth. The finish feels richer, the colour more consistent, the grout lines cleaner. They’ll stand the test of time, and make everything around them look better.

Skimping here is like putting budget tyres on a Bentley.

2. High quality brassware

Your taps, shower controls, and flush plates get used every single day. They’re not just decorative – they’re functional tools.

What looks like smart, chrome-plated brassware at first can start to flake, loosen, or dull after a year – cheapening the look and feel of your entire bathroom.

This is one place where you really do get what you pay for. You’ll feel the difference instantly: solid, weighty, smooth in motion. The finish lasts and it just looks better.

3. Bespoke vanity units

The vanity is often the focal point of the bathroom. And in a luxury space, an off-the-shelf unit just doesn’t cut it.

A bespoke vanity lets you tailor the proportions, finishes, storage, and layout to suit your space, your style, and how you actually use it. Whether it’s wall-mounted in rich wood or built into an alcove with integrated lighting, it brings a level of detail and quality that’s hard to fake.

4. Proper lighting design

Lighting is so often left as an afterthought – but it’s one of the biggest factors in how a bathroom actually feels. It sets the mood.

A well-designed lighting scheme should layer different sources: task lighting around the mirror, soft ambient lighting, and subtle accent lighting that highlights texture and materials.

When done right, lighting makes your bathroom feel like a luxury spa or boutique hotel

5. The installation

You can spend a fortune on beautiful tiles, top-end brassware, and bespoke cabinetry – but if the fitting’s off, it’ll show. It’s probably the most important thing to get right – and the easiest to overlook.

Don’t hand the job to your mate’s cousin or some bloke from down the pub just because “he’s handy.” This isn’t flat-pack furniture. Installing a high-end bathroom takes proper skill, precision, and experience.

That’s why we employ our own fitters that we trust to get the job done right. It’s the difference between “looks fine” and “look incredible

When I design a bathroom, it’s never about throwing money around for the sake of it. I focus on the choices that have real impact – the ones that enhance how the space looks, feels, and functions, not just on day one but for years to come.

If you’re planning a new bathroom and want help making the right choices, we’re here to get it right with you.
